Scientists recently discovered that the microscopic organisms living in tree bark can actually help clean the air by “eating” climate-polluting gases like methane and hydrogen. It is estimated that a single square metre of bark can hold up to 6 trillion of these tiny, hungry microbial cells.
Alongside the important role trees already play by pulling carbon dioxide from the air, releasing the oxygen we breathe, and helping cool our planet, it’s clear trees are true climate super heroes!
