Diver, fisher, and conservationist Charlie Nutting dove every turbine at South Fork Wind off the coast of New York State, and discovered a whole world of thriving marine life.
Fish, mussels, and other sea creatures were living all around the turbine bases. This happens because offshore wind turbines act like artificial reefs. Their hard surfaces give marine life a place to attach, hide, and find food. Over time, these structures support busy underwater communities.
