Texas is on track for a major energy milestone. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, solar power is expected to generate more electricity than coal across most of the state’s grid for the first time in 2026.
Solar generation in Texas is forecast to reach 78 billion kilowatt-hours next year, compared to 60 billion from coal. Just a few years ago, solar made up only 4% of the state’s electricity mix. By 2025, that number had already climbed to 12%.
