CATL, one of the world’s biggest battery companies, is helping bring electric power to the shipping industry. It has already helped power about 900 electric ships.
So far these are mostly smaller boats used in ports and along coastlines, which is already helping cut pollution in ports and nearshore waters, where cleaner air can also mean health benefits for nearby communities.
And as battery costs continue to fall, it opens the door for more ships to make the switch.
