Wildlife around the world is facing growing threats from climate change and habitat loss. But in some places, conservation efforts are making a real difference.
Researchers at the University of Sydney looked at more than 70 studies to find out what, if anything, these stories have in common. They identified three key factors that help conservation efforts succeed: they draw on local knowledge, give communities a say in decisions, and adapt to the needs of each place.
The findings show that protecting nature works best when the people who know and care for these places have a leading role.
