Canada Greener Homes Grant
The Canada Greener Homes grant has been a victim of its own success. Originally meant to last seven years, Natural Resources Canada will stop taking new applications after just two years because demand was so much higher than expected.
The grants, ranging from $125 to $5,000, and loans of up to $40,000 with zero interest, finance renovations that conserve energy, increase comfort and/or produce renewable energy. The deadline for starting the process is weeks away — sometime in March — so it’s worth checking now to see if you’re eligible and would like to get your name in before the cut-off.
Note that there are also special links on this Natural Resources Canada website for residents of Quebec, Ontario and Nova Scotia who have somewhat different processes.

Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program
This program is for Canadian homeowners whose homes are heated by oil and whose households are at or below the median after-tax income. If both things are true for you, you can get a $10,000 up front payment to switch from oil to a new energy-efficient heat pump.
